The Anti-Corruption Vigilance Wing of the Odisha Police on Monday arrested a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets amounting to 630% more than his known sources of income.
The assets accumulated by the accused, identified as Golap Chandra Hansdah, include 44 residential plots, one kilogram of gold, over two kilograms of silver, and bank deposits and investments worth ₹1.34 crore.

“Golap Chandra Hansdah, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Boudh, was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) amounting to 630% of his known sources of income, which he failed to account for satisfactorily,” the Vigilance Directorate said in a statement.

During searches of properties linked to Hansdah and his family, Vigilance officials unearthed movable and immovable assets worth several crores of rupees.
These included a double-storey building measuring 3,300 square feet, 44 residential plots in Baripada and Balasore, one kilogram of gold (including two gold biscuits weighing 50 grams each), 2.126 kilograms of silver, and deposits in banks, postal savings, and insurance policies amounting to ₹1,34,09,193. In addition, around ₹40 lakh had reportedly been spent by Hansdah on his daughter’s medical education.
“After thorough searches, inventory, and further inquiry, Hansdah’s income, expenditure, and assets were calculated, and he was found to be in possession of disproportionate assets 630% in excess of his known sources of income,” the Vigilance statement concluded.
